You really need to read a lot of English. Apart from that
- 1000 words in addition to the English you normally speak. The English spoken in Desi land is not adequate enough, nor the English that you read in newspapers ,and office. In my English school teacher’s word :”baby language”. We were studying in an English medium school. Most of the guys were born In US, Uk, etc. The teacher was an Englishman from UK. This was in ME. It was like an Islamic version of AISD. Make sure you memorize 1000 difficult words before you go to the center or be sure of goofing up!
- Practice ,practice. Now days its more practice because after school in SAT, you probably wanted to give it. In that case you were in touch with English. Now days English is Facebook English and WhatsApp English. Since In Asian countries (except few schools ), level of English may not be high. Though the grammar these guys in villages studying are more difficult than the Americans or British know. Present Continuous tense, that tense ,this tense. They memorize all that. What is the use of all tenses if you cannot write a proper essay.
- Wake up really early 6:00 AM. Take mock tests after you learned most of it.
So how do you build your English skills?
These are some of the ways:
- Read Novels
- Main :Grammar -Parts of Speech . Make sure you known all 8 parts of speech. Nothing to be ashamed of. It is like this if you do not know ARITHMETIC well and some how pass class 7 and 8.(lucky those questions did not come in exam and you got a good score in math. But deep down you know you are weak.) Trouble comes when studying Calculus or higher math, you falter because of weak skills in arithmetic and Algebra. We are taking about an example here. Similar applies to the English language.
- Write Essays. Nobody wants do that after leaving college. The amount of writing even in office is not adequate . This goes for Asia and Desi Land. So what do you do? Try writing a blog. Create a free BlogSpot. Tell others to read it or send to us(TekTrain)
- Play Scrabble Game. I really mean it. It is a word making game and this will help you learn new words. Play the game with friends who know English as you or better, but they all want take the GRE exam.
- See the series in English without subtitles. Name :Mind you Language
- Learn as it if you are having fun. Not like when we were young and studying was like having a fever. This are all cultural things that Asian and Indian sub continental people will understand.
- But more than all this is confidence. Say to yourself :”Nothing is impossible ,except the Impossible” That is what humans can do.
- A training center or coaching center- People in US/UK might not know what a coaching center is. In Desi Land(India, Bangladesh and Pakistan). People go to institutions for learning any thing that’s new and popular. Lot of people do not want to try on their own. They expect teachers to make ‘soup” for them and they want take it with a spoon. In this case it is teachers giving notes or material which they expect to digest and spill at the exams. These centers will give you 20-30%. It might show you how to optimize your efficiency during the exams. They do not build English skills if you do not have any. We say to build skills from scratch(depends how much he knows) ,say a person should spend a year in building those skills.
- Obstacle: Here in Desi land, you have people dressed in suits (and fashion which was already discarded ) but do not know adequate English. The problem is sometimes they do not want to admit in office. Or in real life. In India, you do speak English. It is not they want to it is a necessity. If all of India wants to communicate with each other(India has 33 states),they have to DO SO IN ENGLISH. Not every body knows Hindi, the national language. It is like this if India wanted to have Pan Indian meeting covering each representative from 33 states. They have to speak in English, otherwise they would not understand what the other is saying. Bangladesh and Pakistan ,it is more simple, they speak Bengali or Urdu. So they do not have to speak English.
- A good coaching center- Provided you know basic English. First try this one.
The GRE exam consists of 3 main sections:
- Verbal-2 Sections
- Quantitative Reasoning(Maths)-2 Sections
- Analytical Reasoning -2 Sections
The Analytical part is writing two essays ,each are 30 minutes long. Here you have to argue and show your opinions.
Time :3 Hours 45 Minutes.
Sample :
Analytical
1.
1. To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
2. Analytical type questions
“A recent study of eighteen rhesus monkeys provides clues as to the effects of birth order on an individual’s levels of stimulation. The study showed that in stimulating situations (such as an encounter with an unfamiliar monkey), firstborn infant monkeys produce up to twice as much of the hormone cortisol, which primes the body for increased activity levels, as do their younger siblings. Firstborn humans also produce relatively high levels of cortisol in stimulating situations (such as the return of a parent after an absence). The study also found that during pregnancy, first-time mother monkeys had higher levels of cortisol than did those who had had several offspring.”
Write a response in which you discuss one or more alternative explanations that could rival the proposed explanation and explain how your explanation(s) can plausibly account for the facts presented in the argument.

- palliative
- claque
Honestly speaking most people (desi land)who are going to take the GRE won’t be able to answer above.
You don’t have time to think what the statement or question above means. Few seconds. The options ,honestly don’t know they mean.
The blank you think which word can fit. To me , keyword is necessary.
The blank could be necessary measure or something that has to be done. So you see you need to know words!
